Free crochet pattern : Chicken Amigurumi

The Year of the Rooster is coming and i'm going to show with you guys a cute chicken amigurmi. You can use it as a home decoration for our chinese new year.

 

Let's get started! 

 

We will be working in continuous round in this project unless otherwise stated.

Measurement : 16cm tall 

Please note that the type of yarn used and the tension may cause variation in size.

 

Materials:

3.5 mm crochet hook

Stuff Filling

Yarn: Yellow, Red, Orange,black

Yarn needle

 

 

Abbreviations (in U.S crochet terms)

Sc       -   Single crochet

Ch      -   Chain

St       -  Stitch

Rep    -   Repeat

Sl      -  Slipstitch

Inc    -  Increase (2 sc in same stitch)

Dec   -  Decrease (1 sc over 2 stitches)

 

Head & Body

Start with Yellow yarn

R1        :      Sc 10 in magic ring.  (10 sts)

R2       :      [1 sc in 1st 4 St, Inc], Rep [ ] once (12 sts)

R3       :      [1 sc in 1st 3 St, Inc], Rep [ ] twice (15 sts)

R4       :      [1 sc in 1st 2 St, Inc], Rep [ ] around (20 sts)

R5       :      [1 sc in 1st 3 St, Inc], Rep [ ] around (25 sts)

R6       :      [1 sc in 1st 4 St, Inc], Rep [ ] around (30 sts)

R7       :      [1 sc in 1st 5 St, Inc], Rep [ ] around (35 sts)

R8-15    :     Sc around (35 sts)

R16       :     [1 sc in 1st 5 St, Dec ], Rep [ ] around (30 sts)

R17       :     Sc around (30 sts)

R18       :     [1 sc in 1st St, Dec ], Rep [ ] around (20 sts)

R19       :      Dec around. (10 sts)

Continue with body

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing.

 

 

Mouth [ Orange Yarn

Ch 6

Sc in 2nd St from hook, 1 hdc , 1 dc, 1 hdc ,1 Sc 

Rep on the other side of the Ch - 1 Sc, 1 Hdc, 1 Dc, 1 Hdc, 1 Sc

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing.

 

Wattle [ Red Yarn]

Ch 5,

Row 1 : Hdc in 3rd St from hook, hdc across , turn 

Row 2 : [ Ch 2 , Hdc , Ch 2 , Sl ] in the first St, 1 Sc in next St , Rep [ ] in last St. 

Rep on the other side of the Ch - 1 Sc, 1 Hdc, 1 Dc, 1 Hdc, 1 Sc

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing.

 

 

Leg - Make 2 [ Orange yarn]  

R1      : 10 Sc in magic ring.  (10 sts)

R2-7   : Sc around. (10 sts)

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing.

 

Feet - Make 2 [ Orange Yarn] 

Row 1     : 6 Sc in magic ring, turn (6 sts)

Row 2    : [ Ch 2 Hdc Ch 2] in 1st St, Sc in next St, Rep [ ] once, 1 Sc, Rep [ ] 

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing.

 

 

Wing - Make 2 [ Yellow Yarn

R1      : 12 hdc in magic ring.  (12 sts)

R2-7   : ^[ Ch 3, 2 Dc in 1st St, Ch 3, Sl ], Sc in next St^^ , Rep ^ to ^^ around

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing.

 

Tail [ Yellow Yarn

Comb - [ Red Yarn

Ch 8,

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd St from hook, [ in the 2nd St, Hdc , Ch2 , Sl] , ^ Ch 3 , dc in 3rd St, dc, Ch3, sl in 4th St ^^ , Rep ^ to ^^ in the last 2 St

Rep Row 1 on the other side of the Ch 

Fasten off and leave long end for sewing.

 

 

Assembly

 

1. Stuff an appropriate amount of stuff filling into the head & body, legs

   Close the gap, Weave tail through last round of body and  secure with a knot

 

2. Fold the comb, wing / tail and feet into half and sew them securely

 3. Sew the Legs securely onto the feet

 

4. Using the picture below as a reference

    - Sew the 2 wings to each side of the body

    - Sew the mouth in the middle area of the head and the wattle under the mouth.

    - Sew the Comb onto the top of the head

    - Sew the legs from Step 3 onto the bottom of the body.

 

    Using black yarn, sew the eyes. ( you may also use a pair of safety eyes)

 5. Lastly, Sew the tail to the back of the body and your chicken is done
