Free Crochet Pattern : Doraemon

Doraemon, a robot cat that initially had a yellow body with ears but his ears were eaten by mice and that caused him to fear mice. Read more about the Birth of Doraemon to find out why he became blue.

Completed Doraemon is approximately 10cm tall. 

 

Please note that the type of yarn used and the tension may cause variation in size. We will be working in continuous round in this project unless otherwise stated. 

 

Materials you need: 

A 3.5mm crochet Hook

Yarn needle

Yarn - blue , white , black 

A pair of 4 mm eyes

Red button 

White felt

Gold Bell 

 

Abbreviations (in U.S crochet terms)

 

Sc      - Single crochet

Ch     - Chain

St      - Stitch

Inc    -  Increase (2 sc in same stitch)

Dec  -  Decrease (1sc over 2 stitches)

 

Crochet Pattern

 

Head

Start with White yarn

R1     : 10 Sc in Magic Ring (10 St) 

R2    : Inc around (20 St)

R3    : [1 sc, Inc], Rep 9 times. (30 sts)

R4    : Sc around (30 sts)

Change to Blue yarn 

R5    Sc around (30 sts)

R6    : [1 sc in next 4 st, Inc], Rep 5 times. (36 sts)

R7    : Sc around (36 sts)

R8    : [1 sc in next 8 St, Inc] , Rep 3 times (40 Sts) 

R9-12 : Sc around (40 sts)

R13    : [1 sc in next 8 St, Dec] , Rep 3 times (36 Sts) 

R14    : [1 sc in next 4 st, Dec], Rep 5 times. (30 sts)

R15    : [1 sc, Dec ], Rep 9 times. (20 sts)

R16    : Dec Around. (10 sts)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. 

 

Body

Start with Blue yarn

R1     : 10 Sc in Magic Ring (10 St) 

R2    : Inc around (20 St)

R3    : [1 sc in next 3 St, Inc], Rep 4 times. (25 sts)

R4-5  : Sc around (25 sts)

* From next round onwards, work on one yarn colour and carry the other 

i.e When working on White Yarn [W] , Carry Blue yarn [B] 

You may use the chart as a guide 

 

R6    : [B] 1 Sc , [W] 1 Sc in next 5 st,   [B] 1 Sc in next 19 St (25 St)

R7-10 : [W] 1 Sc in next 7 st , [B] 1 Sc in next 18 St (25 St)

R11    : [W] Dec, 1 Sc in next 3 St, Dec , ^[B] 1 Sc , Dec  ^^ , Rep ^ to ^^ 5 times (17 St)

R12   : [W] Dec, 1 Sc in Next St, Dec  , [B] Dec in next 6 St ( 9 St) 

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. 

 

Legs- Make 2 ( White Yarn)

R1     : 10 Sc in Magic Ring (10 St) 

R2    : ^1 Sc, Inc^^, Rep ^ to ^^ 4 times  (15 St)

R3-4  : Sc around (15 sts)

R5    : ^1 Sc, Dec^^, Rep ^ to ^^ 4 times  (10 St)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. 

 

Hands- Make 2 ( White Yarn)

R1     : 10 Sc in Magic Ring (10 St) 

R2-3  : Sc around (10 sts)

R4    : ^1 Sc in next 3 st, Dec^^, Rep ^ to ^^  (8 St)

Change to Blue yarn 

R5-9    Sc around (30 sts)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. 

 

Assembly

Use the picture as a reference

  • Cut white felt  to make the eyes , Insert the safety eyes in the middle of the head 

  • Stuff an appropiate amount of stuff filling into head Close the gap, Weave tail through last round and secure with a knot

  • Stuff an appropriate amount of stuff filling into body, legs and hands

  • Sew the hands and legs onto the body

  • Sew the face with black yarn and add a red nose to the head 

  • To make the collar, Chain to a desired length and sew to the neck area. Add a gold bell at the center of the collar. 

Done! 

You can add a bead chain or key ring and carry it around or use it as a bag charm
